Rick Burris

‘I gain real satisfaction from learning the interesting and creative processes of our clients’ businesses, and then using that knowledge to help them further their business goals.’

What’s your role at SisAdmin?
I joined the team in 2004 and quickly found a niche in project management, proposal preparation, Web site development, accounting and statistical analysis, and I manage our Postini spam and virus filtering services.

What do you mean by statistical analysis?
I gather data, prepare and/or analyze financial, site statistics, spam and virus data reports. I then communicate that information and subsequent actions to management and clients.

You’ve been in IT for more than 23 years – what were you doing before SisAdmin?
I serviced a wide range of computer peripheral hardware and gained extensive experience in the service industry. That gave me the knowledge to move into call center and technical support management. From there I did pre-sales technical support and assisted the sales team with contract pricing and implementation support.

What’s an example of a big project that you’ve managed?
I’m good at juggling a lot of balls in the air, so my previous employer, Halifax Corporation (formerly Microserv Technology Services) asked me to lead the effort to gain ISO 9001 Certification and later ISO 9001:2000 Certification for the company. As a result, their quality control processes were greatly improved and they gained credentials that allowed them bid on more projects from larger organizations.

What do you do when you’re not working
I love play golf. In fact, I operate a USGA sanctioned golf club for a group of friends and associates. I also help out with my son’s little league team and cub scouts. When I’m free, I also enjoy working around the house.
