‘I really enjoy working with our clients, learning their systems and business needs, and creating the best plans and packages for each company .’ |
What do you do at SisAdmin?
I’m the Consulting Engineer–I work with Mary and the engineers to do the detailed Network Evaluations our packages are built on, and then create the packages and plans to pull that all together for each client. As in all small companies, we wear lots of hats–I’m also an account manager, pinch-hit engineer, help desk person, and project planner.
How did you learn to do all that – your résumé says you majored in English, with a minor in Philosophy?
I always enjoyed technology, even though my undergraduate teaching assistant job was helping freshmen learn composition and tutoring at the Writing Center. My first job doing database design and creation, came from being the only office staff that could figure it out. I also did some technical writing. From there I learned a lot on my own, took a lot of classes, got my MCSE certifications, and learned so much in the field, both from customers and other engineers.
What do you like best about your work at SisAdmin?
I really love digging deeply into a client’s network in the evaluation, researching and coming up with solutions to the issues we find, and then creating that specific, clear plan for addressing those issues. It’s pretty common for IT people to get into the field partly for tech reasons, and partly because we want to be someone’s hero. For SisAdmin, those network evaluations are the first concrete step that makes it possible for us to be our client’s heros, and that just never gets old.
